Sole proprietorship

« Back to Glossary Index

A legal figure that designates the natural person who develops a business or professional activity on their own behalf, habitually, personally, and directly, and for profit. It requires registration in the census of entrepreneurs, professionals, and retainers of the Tax Agency. Often used interchangeably with self-employed because it usually entails registration in the Special Regime of Self-Employed Workers, although it may adopt other figures to comply with its obligations to Social Security, as is the case, for example, with mutualists belonging to professional associations. This figure is found primarily in the services sector (commerce or professionals) and in the primary sector (small farmers).
